ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation is currently using chip seal on Missouri roads. The process involves spraying a heated film on asphalt.
MoDOT engineer Jennifer Sardigal told KXCV/KRNW that chip seal helps roadways hold up longer at a lower cost compared to a conventional asphalt overlay.
Sardigal says that chips seals are done almost every year depending on the condition of the roads and budget available.
